Mettlach is attracting visitors from allover the world. One of the reasons is the variety of rare landscape impressions and the outstanding infrastucture enabling unforgettable interactive holidays.
Exploring the Landscape
After a just 2km walk from the hotel you are reaching the “Saarschleife”, an extrem loop of the Saar river, created by special geological formations, the most outstanding landscape of Saarland. From the viewing platform called “Cloef” in the village of Orscholz, one has the most magnificant view of the Saarschleife, surrounded by rock slopes and forested hills. Just opposite, hidden in the forest, you’ll find “Burg Monclair”, a preferred place for short distance hiking, too. Of course, you can as well explore the Saar river by ship from the shipping pier in Mettlach, for example by a Saarschleifen round trip or a day tour from Merzig via Mettlach to Saarburg. Or you may take the only ferry in Saarland called “Welles” to continue hiking at the other side of the river. Ideal for relaxed walks in Mettlach are the romantic Abbey park with it’s little lake or the park opposite the river around chateau Saareck.

These are part of the highly frequented Saar bicycle route which runs from Sarreguemines (France) right up to Konz (about 130 km). Short trip bicycle tours over a couple of days can be arranged by the tourist information centre in Mettlach and ist regional partners. Especially hikers will appriciate Mettlach and its neighbouring areas. Mettlach’s municipal area can offer four certified prime hiking routes, which are part of the supraregional “Saar-Hunsrück-Steig”, one of Germany’s top ten hiking routes. Special highlights are the “Saarschleife Tafeltour” (16 km) and the “Cloefpfad” (7.3 km). For mountainbiking and nordic walking plenty of individual tours around the Saarschleife are available. During the summer time Mettlach’s public open air pool offers lots of fun and refreshment.
